New Orleans – NOLAstcall
I had only been to New Orleans for work so the only down time I had for site seeing was usually spent being horizontal and exhausted. So when I saw the opportunity to totally invite myself on a pre-Christmas trip with some friends, they graciously let come!
New Orleans is one of those places I had pegged as “BOOZE! BEADS! BOOBS! ALL THE TIME!”. But it’s actually quite lovely and less brazen when you’re there to take haunted walking tours and eat your weight in fried dough.
New Orleans
We stayed at Maison Dupuy, “The French Quarter Hotel”, which honestly is quaint AF and possible slightly haunted. Which made it AWESOME. (some members of our party might disagree, they are incorrect.)
Pat O’Brien’s is where you need to go to get the ‘original’ hurricane. AKA the most sugar laden alcoholic beverage (in the video at 0:08) which will give you a headache in your teeth. But you’re in NOLAAAAA, NO LAST CALL!
Also the things at 0:19 with the alien looking faces – those are grenades. And yes, they will destroy you.

If you do nothing else for yourself, go to Café Du Monde (0:25) and get yourself a deep fat fried carb that’s been smothered with powdered sugar. That’s all. Oh also, it’s open 24/7 so you have zero excuses.
Garden District Cemetery Tour, (0:30) if you’re not into cemeteries or how people died, this is still a cool tour. New Orleans is oozing with history both scandalous and fascinating. (as evidenced by the clips after we exit the cemetery, we just walked around ogling the Gothic exteriors of a lot of the homes nearby)

Sandwiches made from donuts and cold brew because we can. (District @ 0:57)

The St. Charles Streetcar Line is the oldest continuously running streetcar line in the world. In operation since 1835. (1:05)
On our Haunted Pub Crawl (brief shot at 0:17 where we took our Christmas card photo below. It was mostly dark so I didn’t take much footage of this. But we had tour guide Gina, and she was fantastic and very knowledgable about the local history.

The Oak Alley and Laura Plantation Tour included transportation from New Orleans which was very convenient. (1:20) It was super interesting knowing how New Orleans came to be.

Dinner at the Acme Oyster House, high recommend. (1:57)
The great thing about New Orleans is that there is SOMETHING happening at any time. We just walked around (even in the pouring rain) and found fun bars and even a night market.

Not filmed but we had lunch at a place called Galatoire’s where you need a reservation and also to dress business casual. It’s pretty tough to find bad food in New Orleans, but this little place has great French cuisine.
Count on me to ruin your cutely posed photos!
