Grass Mountain Trail
Grass Mountain Trail: distance questionable at best.
Beauty: undeniable.
Poppies in bloom: not guaranteed.
Like many of our trail lessons: main lesson is to bring more snacks.
The Trail
It is STEEP. You climb about 2100 ft in 1.5 miles.
These are the best coordinates I’ve found to get you to the trailhead: 34.741712, -120.062089
Reception is spotty at best when you get up there though. Part of the reason we have no idea how far we actually went.
From research we were under the impression that the hike was 4.5 miles ROUNDTRIP. This is false.
We did not pack food for a 9 mile hike, and there is nothing nearby. Be better than us, PLAN THE SNACKS.

The Top that almost never was
It was truly comical how long it took us to reach the top since we were expecting to arrive there after only 2 miles.
Also it had rained a copious amount so we were slip ‘n’ sliding around. There were also people out there with jeans and flip flops on, so we were all a mess.
By the time we got up there the one thing we had come to see – the poppies in bloom – had closed due to the rain. So we laid on the top of the mountain, debated taking a nap and talked about all the things we were going to eat when we got off the thing.

In Sum
- The internet is misleading – this hike is 4.5 miles one way. Assuming you don’t get lost.
- It is very up.
- There is nothing nearby to eat, pack bonus snacks.
- The grass is very soft and good for a quick nap.
